Action Tank Tanks Ww 1

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the raw power and determination of the British military during the First World War, as a Mark I tank, nicknamed "Mother," advances through the muddy battlefields of France in 1917. The tank, a revolutionary weapon in warfare, is seen here in action, its thick armor plating and menacing machine guns a formidable sight to enemy lines. The year 1917 marked a significant turning point in the war, with the Battle of Arras and the Third Battle of Ypres, also known as Passchendaele, both taking place. These battles saw the first large-scale use of tanks in combat, and the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) played a crucial role in their deployment. The Mark I tank, developed by the British engineering firm William Foster and Company, was the first operational tank used by the British Army. It weighed around 29 tons and was powered by a 100 horsepower engine. Its thick armor plating and tracks made it virtually impervious to enemy fire, and its machine guns allowed it to engage the enemy at close range. The photograph provides a glimpse into the harsh realities of trench warfare and the innovative tactics employed by the British military to gain an advantage over the enemy. The muddy terrain, the ominous clouds overhead, and the determined expressions of the crew members all serve to underscore the intense and unforgiving nature of the battlefield. This photograph is an important historical record of a pivotal moment in military history, and a reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women who served during the First World War.
