Converted Edgworth Form Stand Wheatsheaf Childrens

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures a group of children standing outside the former Wheatsheaf Inn at Edgworth, Lancashire, in the early 1900s. The building, once a popular inn, underwent a significant transformation in 1872 when it was converted to form the nucleus of a branch of the National Children's Home. The National Children's Home, also known as the Waifs and Strays Society, was a leading British charity dedicated to the care and protection of children in need. Established in 1881, the organization provided shelter, education, and social care for thousands of children who were abandoned, orphaned, or otherwise in need of a safe and nurturing environment. The Edgworth branch of the National Children's Home was one of many such institutions established across the country to provide care and support to vulnerable children. In this photograph, we see a group of children, dressed in their best clothes, standing proudly outside the former inn, which had been repurposed to provide them with a temporary home. The conversion of the Wheatsheaf Inn into a children's home was a testament to the compassion and dedication of the National Children's Home and its supporters. The organization's mission was to provide a safe and loving environment for children in need, and this photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the important work that was carried out in the name of social care and housing. Today, the National Children's Home continues to provide vital support to children and young people, helping them to overcome the challenges they face and build a brighter future for themselves. This photograph is a powerful reminder of the organization's rich history and the difference it has made to the lives of countless children over the years.
