1590 Ambrose Brother Dudley Favourite Warwick Elizabeth

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking portrait depicts Ambrose Dudley, Earl of Warwick (1530-1590), the brother of Robert Dudley, who held the position of Queen Elizabeth I's favorite from 1558 until her death in 1603. The image captures Ambrose in grand attire, reflecting his noble status. His elaborate costume, adorned with intricate patterns and rich fabrics, includes a ruff collar and a fur-trimmed cloak. The Queen's influence is evident in the elegant, contemporary style of the portrait. Ambrose Dudley, born in 1530, was the younger brother of Robert Dudley, who was 12 years his senior. Despite the age difference, the two brothers shared a close bond. Robert's rise to power and influence at the court of Queen Elizabeth I brought Ambrose into the limelight as well. The beardless, youthful appearance of Ambrose in this portrait contrasts with the more matured and bearded look of his brother, Robert, who is often depicted in portraits from the same era. This difference in appearance may suggest that this portrait of Ambrose was created earlier in his life. Ambrose Dudley's life was marked by political intrigue and power struggles. He served as a Member of Parliament, Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands, and was appointed the Master of the Horse to Queen Elizabeth I. However, his involvement in various political schemes and alliances led to his imprisonment in the Tower of London in 1554. He was later released and continued to serve the Queen, but his political fortunes fluctuated throughout his life. This historical portrait of Ambrose Dudley, Earl of Warwick, offers a glimpse into the opulent world of the English court during the late Tudor period. The intricate details of his costume, combined with the regal setting, emphasize his noble status and the influence of Queen Elizabeth I on the artistic and cultural scene of the time.
