17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
A Sea of Opportunities: The Full Crew of the Training Ship Exmouth, 1904 This evocative photograph captures the full crew of the Training Ship Exmouth, moored off Grays in Essex, in 1904. Established by the Metropolitan Asylums Board, this naval training establishment provided a unique opportunity for pauper children, most of whom had been rescued from the overcrowded and impoverished conditions of London workhouses. The Exmouth, with its impressive rigging and nautical lines, served as a floating school and employment centre, teaching the boys essential sailing and naval skills. The crew, dressed in their uniforms, exude a sense of discipline and determination, reflecting the transformative power of this seafaring education. The Metropolitan Asylums Board, an early social welfare organization, recognized the importance of providing alternative avenues for employment and skills training for the most vulnerable members of society. The Training Ship Exmouth represented a beacon of hope for these pauper children, offering them a chance to escape the cycle of poverty and unemployment that had trapped their families for generations. This historical photograph, taken during the Edwardian era, provides a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by children living in poverty during this period. The boys in the photograph, with their focused expressions and determined gazes, embody the spirit of resilience and determination that characterized the lives of many pauper children. As we admire the beauty of the Training Ship Exmouth and the dedication of its crew, we are reminded of the importance of providing access to education and opportunities for all, particularly for those who face the greatest challenges in life.
