23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "Thomas Nast: The Father of the Modern American Santa Claus" Thomas Nast (1840-1902), an influential American cartoonist, is renowned for his significant contribution to the iconic image of Santa Claus as we know it today. Born in Landau in the Palatinate region of Germany, Nast immigrated to the United States in 1846 and quickly made a name for himself as a talented artist and satirist. This print, showcasing Thomas Nast in his prime, highlights the man behind the legend. Nast's moustache, a distinctive feature of his appearance, is prominently displayed, adding to the authenticity of the image. The date range of 1840-1902 underscores Nast's impressive career span, during which he created over 5,000 cartoons for various publications, including Harper's Weekly. Nast's Santa Claus illustrations, which first appeared in Harper's Weekly in the late 1860s, revolutionized the way Americans perceived the jolly old man. Prior to Nast's depictions, Santa Claus was often portrayed as a thin, gaunt figure with no resemblance to the cheerful, rotund character we recognize today. Nast's Santa Claus was a kind, generous, and loving figure, dressed in red and white, with a full beard and a rosy cheeked smile. This new image of Santa Claus quickly gained popularity and became the standard representation of the character in American culture. Thomas Nast's impact on the American imagination extends beyond Santa Claus. His political cartoons played a crucial role in shaping public opinion during the 19th century, addressing issues such as corruption, politics, and social issues. This print serves as a testament to Nast's enduring influence on American art and culture.
