1882 Bell Loughborough Manufactured Messrs Pauls Taylor Testing January

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This engraving captures an intriguing moment in the history of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, as the workers of Messrs. Taylor and Sons Factory in Loughborough test the newly manufactured Great Bell destined for the iconic cathedral in January 1882. The image, published in the Illustrated London News on the 7th of the same month, shows the meticulous process of testing the massive bell, which was imported from Loughborough for St. Paul's Cathedral. The workers, dressed in heavy coats and protective gear, are seen gathered around the bell, which is suspended from a large wooden frame. The bell's clapper is being swung with a long rope, and the workers are intently observing the bell's response. The intricate details of the bell's design, including its ornate decorations and inscriptions, are clearly visible in this high-quality engraving. St. Paul's Cathedral had undergone extensive restoration work following a devastating fire in 1831, and the installation of a new great bell was a significant part of the restoration project. The new bell, which replaced the old one that had been melted down during the restoration, was cast by Taylor and Sons, a renowned British foundry known for its expertise in bell-making. The successful testing of the bell marked an important milestone in the restoration of St. Paul's Cathedral, and this engraving provides a fascinating glimpse into the meticulous process of manufacturing and testing such a significant historical artifact. The image also serves as a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the workers at Messrs. Taylor and Sons Factory in Loughborough, who played a crucial role in bringing this historic project to fruition.
