FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

The Study of an Old Man in the Vale of Years,
EDITORS COMMENTS
a poignant sketch by Phil May, captures the essence of aging and the passage of time as depicted in William Shakespeare's Sonnet 73. Dated 1898, this evocative work of art portrays an elderly man, seated in a worn, wooden chair, with his arms crossed and his lap adorned with the folds of his robes. The old man's gaze is introspective, lost in thought as he ponders the end of his life. The quotation inscribed below the image, taken from Sonnet 73, reads: "That time of year thou mayst in me behold / When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang / Upon those boughs which shake against the cold, / Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang." These verses, penned by the Bard of Avon himself, express the melancholic beauty of aging and the inevitability of the end of life. This powerful combination of visual art and literary mastery transports us to a historical moment when the themes of aging, mortality, and the passage of time were explored with depth and sensitivity. The old man's quiet contemplation invites us to reflect on our own lives and the wisdom that comes with the passage of years. This poignant study, with its Shakespearean quote, serves as a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of cherishing each moment.
