17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a memorable moment in history as Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) shares a convivial scene with King Kalakaua of Hawaii and Lloyd Osbourne at the King's boathouse in Honolulu. The image, taken between the years 1850 and 1894, showcases the warm friendship that developed between Stevenson and the Hawaiian monarch during the author's extended stay in the islands. Stevenson, renowned for his literary works such as "Treasure Island," "Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," and "The Master of Ballantrae," arrived in Hawaii in 1889 seeking a healthier climate to recover from a lung ailment. He was welcomed with open arms by King Kalakaua, who was an avid reader and admirer of Stevenson's works. The round table in the background of the photograph is a testament to the engaging conversations and intellectual exchanges that took place between the three men. Lloyd Osbourne, Stevenson's brother-in-law and frequent collaborator, is also present in the scene. The group's relaxed demeanor and the idyllic setting of the boathouse by the water add to the overall charm of the image. This photograph is a precious document of a unique encounter between a literary giant and a monarch, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural exchange that occurred between Scotland and Hawaii during the late 19th century. The scene is further enhanced by the picturesque setting and the warm camaraderie between the three individuals, making it an intriguing and evocative image that continues to captivate viewers to this day.
