1873 1943 Composer Cropped Ring Sergei Rachmaninov

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the enigmatic and introspective gaze of the renowned Russian composer, Sergei Rachmaninov, in 1920. The image, taken during the latter years of his life, reveals a man deeply immersed in thought, his furrowed brow and piercing eyes hinting at the depth of emotion and creativity that fueled his groundbreaking musical compositions. Born in 1873 in Ivanovo-on-the-Volga, Russia, Rachmaninov's prodigious talent was evident from an early age. He began piano lessons at the age of four and went on to study at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, where he honed his skills as both a pianist and a composer. Despite initial successes, Rachmaninov's career faced a significant setback when his music was criticized during a performance of his Third Symphony in 1910. This rejection led him to leave Russia and embark on a tour of Europe and the United States, where he re-established himself as a virtuoso pianist and a sought-after composer. The photograph shows Rachmaninov wearing a simple, collarless shirt and a heavy gold signet ring on his left hand. The absence of a tie or formal attire lends an informal, intimate air to the image, as if we are catching a glimpse of the composer in a private moment. The cropped framing of the photograph, with Rachmaninov's face taking up the majority of the frame, further emphasizes his intense focus and deep introspection. Rachmaninov continued to compose and perform until his death in 1943, leaving behind a rich and enduring legacy of symphonies, concertos, and other works that continue to captivate audiences around the world. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the complex and intriguing man behind the music.
