23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "Ruffed Grouse (Bonasa umbellus): A Majestic Gamebird from North America's Woodlands" This exquisite handcolored copperplate engraving showcases the Ruffed Grouse (Bonasa umbellus), a native gamebird of North America. The intricate detail and vibrant colors of this illustration, taken from The Naturalist's Pocket Magazine published in Harrison, London, around 1800, offer a captivating glimpse into the natural history of this fascinating species. The Ruffed Grouse, also known as the Ruffed Heathcock or Tetraotus tetraotus, is a ground-dwelling bird that is well adapted to the forested habitats of North America. The male, depicted in this illustration, is characterized by its distinctive ruff of feathers around its neck, which is used for courtship displays. The female, on the other hand, lacks this feature and has a more subdued plumage. The Ruffed Grouse was an essential gamebird for early naturalists and settlers in North America. Its meat was considered a delicacy, and its presence was a sign of a healthy forest ecosystem. This illustration not only serves as a testament to the bird's importance as a game species but also as a valuable record of natural history. The Naturalist's Pocket Magazine was a popular publication during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, providing its readers with accurate and detailed illustrations of various plants, animals, and minerals. This engraving, produced using the copperplate technique, is a prime example of the high-quality illustrations that were produced during this period. Today, the Ruffed Grouse continues to be an important species in North American forests, and its population remains relatively stable. This beautiful illustration serves as a reminder of the rich natural history that surrounds us and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
