23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This image depicts the third historic hot air balloon ascent of Jean-Pierre Blanchard and his passenger, Mr. Boby, from the old barracks in Rouen, France on July 18, 1784. Dressed in fashionable attire of the 1780s, Blanchard, a pioneering French aviator, stands confidently next to his colossal creation. The hot air balloon, with its distinctive bulbous shape and large, colorful flags adorning the envelope, resembles a magnificent flying wing or sail, ready to transport its passengers to new heights. The scene is set against the backdrop of the old barracks, a stark contrast to the innovative technology that lies before us. Blanchard, known for his groundbreaking achievements in ballooning, skillfully pilots the vessel with the help of his assistant, Mr. Boby. The pair embarked on this journey with the hope of exploring new territories and expanding human knowledge of the world from a unique perspective. As they ascend, the crowd below watches in awe, their faces filled with excitement and wonder. The successful ascent marked a significant milestone in the history of aviation, paving the way for further advancements and exploration. Later, they descended safely on the Plaine de Puissanval, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and captivate generations. This photograph, taken from the archives of The Royal Aeronautical Society (National Aerospace Library), is a testament to the spirit of innovation and adventure that characterized the early days of flight. The image, sourced from Mary Evans Prints Online, offers a glimpse into the past, reminding us of the incredible journey that began with the humble hot air balloon.
