Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite handcolored illustration showcases the ripe fruit and leaves of the Gansel Bergamot Pear (Pyrus communis), a variety of common pear, as depicted in Charles McIntosh's Flora and Pomona published in 1829. The illustration was meticulously created by botanical artist Edwin Dalton Smith and expertly engraved by Watts. McIntosh (1794-1864), a Scottish gardener to European aristocracy and royalty, authored numerous books on gardening and horticulture. Smith, a skilled botanical artist, drew for notable figures such as Robert Sweet and Benjamin Maund. The illustration captures the essence of the Gansel Bergamot Pear in its prime. The ripe pear is depicted with a rich golden hue, its surface adorned with a subtle bloom. The leaves, delicately rendered in green, contrast beautifully against the fruit. The intricate details of the veins and textures of the leaves are a testament to the artists' mastery of their craft. The historical significance of this illustration lies in its origins in the 19th century, a time when botanical exploration and documentation were at their height. Flora and Pomona was a seminal work in the field of horticulture, showcasing a wide array of plants and fruits, many of which were new to science at the time. This illustration serves as a window into the past, offering a glimpse into the world of botanical discovery and artistic expression during an era of great scientific and cultural advancement.
