23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures Princess Marie Jose of Belgium, the eldest daughter of King Albert I, during her time as a scout at Brentwood School in England during the First World War. In 1914, following the German invasion of Belgium, the Belgian Royal Family was forced into exile, seeking refuge in England. The young princess and her brothers, including the future King Leopold III, spent the war years in England, receiving an education and living under the protective custody of the British monarchy. In this image, Princess Marie Jose is shown seated at the front of a group of scouts, dressed in a pristine white blouse and skirt, with her pole firmly planted in the ground beside her. The setting, with its open fields and clear blue sky, contrasts sharply with the turmoil and uncertainty of the war raging across Europe. The photograph is a poignant reminder of the resilience and adaptability of the young Belgian royals, who continued their education and upbringing amidst the chaos of war. The 1st Great War Scout Movement was an important part of the British education system during this period, with a focus on character development, leadership, and outdoor skills. The inclusion of Princess Marie Jose and her brothers in this program reflects the integration of the Belgian Royal Family into British society during their exile. This photograph, taken in 1917, is a testament to the enduring bond between the two nations and the role that education and community played in supporting the young royals during a time of great upheaval.
