23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This color plate, titled "The hopping match on Clapham Common: Jackson the runner exhibiting his agility," is taken from Pierce Egan's renowned collection of anecdotes, "The Turf, The Chase, The Ring, and The Stage," published in 1827. Pierce Egan (1772-1849), a celebrated journalist and sports writer, documented the social and cultural aspects of British life during the Regency era. The image showcases an intense moment from a hopping race that took place on Clapham Common, a popular recreational area in London. Jackson, the agile runner, is in mid-leap, showcasing his remarkable skill and determination. Hopping races were a traditional English pastime, where participants would leap over a series of small barriers, often made of wooden poles, as quickly as possible. The vibrant colors and intricate details of this print bring the scene to life, capturing the excitement and energy of the event. The crowd, consisting of men, women, and children, is intently watching Jackson's performance, their expressions reflecting a mix of awe, anticipation, and delight. The lush greenery of Clapham Common and the colorful attire of the spectators add to the overall charm and allure of the image. Egan's "Anecdotes" were widely popular and helped to establish him as a leading figure in the world of British sports journalism. His writings provided an insightful and entertaining account of various sports and pastimes, making them a valuable historical record of the era. This image of the hopping race on Clapham Common is a testament to Egan's ability to capture the essence of British life during the Regency period.
