17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking portrait captures Chief Justice John Jay in the year 1794, during his tenure as the first Chief Justice of the United States. The painting, created by renowned artist Gilbert Stuart, showcases Jay in his formal attire, seated before a backdrop of a red velvet curtain and a grand, ornate building, symbolizing the nation's burgeoning bureaucracy and governmental structures. John Jay (1745-1829) was a pivotal figure in American history, serving as a key diplomat during the Continental Congress and co-authoring The Federalist Papers with Alexander Hamilton and James Madison. His influence extended beyond the political sphere, as he was also a signatory of the Treaty of Paris in 1782, which officially ended the American Revolution. In this portrait, Jay's hand rests on a stack of papers, signifying his role as the head of the judiciary branch and his responsibility in interpreting the laws of the land. The portrait, which is part of a series of Stuart's Lansdowne Portraits, is a testament to the fine art of portraiture and the historical significance of the individuals it depicts. The image offers a glimpse into the political climate of the late 18th century and the establishment of the federal government, as well as the formalities and protocols of the time. This powerful and evocative portrait invites us to reflect on the rich history of the United States and the influential figures who shaped its early years. It serves as a reminder of the importance of the rule of law and the role of the judiciary in upholding the Constitution and protecting the rights of American citizens.
