1965 Hangar Havilland Humming Moth Vixen

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative black-and-white photograph from the Mary Evans Picture Library, we find ourselves in the hallowed confines of a historic aircraft hangar, where the past comes alive with the presence of three iconic British aircraft: de Havilland DH.53 Humming Bird G-EBHX, DH.60 Moth, and Fleet Air Arm Sea Vixen FAW.1s. The de Havilland DH.53 Humming Bird, with the registration number G-EBHX and manufacturing serial number 98, is the star of the show. This open-cockpit biplane was a popular design for both civilian and military use during the interwar period. Its distinctive shape and agile handling made it a favorite among pilots and aviation enthusiasts alike. The Humming Bird's elegant lines and vintage charm stand out in stark contrast to the more modern aircraft that would soon dominate the skies. To the left of the Humming Bird, a DH.60 Moth rests quietly. This versatile biplane was another de Havilland classic, known for its simplicity, affordability, and ease of use. It was a favorite among flying clubs and private pilots, and its enduring popularity can still be seen in the skies today. In the background, the imposing silhouette of Fleet Air Arm Sea Vixen FAW.1s catches the eye. This powerful, carrier-borne jet fighter was a formidable force during the Cold War era. Its advanced capabilities and impressive performance were a stark contrast to the more traditional biplanes that dominated the foreground of this photograph. The juxtaposition of these three aircraft in the hangar serves as a poignant reminder of the rich history of aviation and the remarkable evolution of aircraft design. The photograph captures a moment in time when the past and the future collided, leaving us with a sense of wonder and appreciation for the ingenuity and innovation that has shaped the world of flight.
