23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Parthenon Frieze: A Century of Decay (1929) This striking comparison showcases the profound impact of a century of decay on the renowned Parthenon Frieze. On the left, we see plaster casts of parts of the frieze that were removed from the temple in 1801 by Lord Elgin. These casts were made as accurate records of the original sculptures, which adorned the ancient Greek temple on the Acropolis in Athens. On the right, we witness the same sections of the frieze as they appeared in 1929, following a century of exposure to the elements and other damaging forces. The effects of weathering, deterioration, and damage are evident, with cracks, missing pieces, and faded colors marring the once pristine relief carvings. The Parthenon Frieze, a masterpiece of ancient Greek art, dates back to 447-438 BC. It is renowned for its intricate and lifelike depictions of mythological scenes and processions. The frieze was originally made of limestone and Pentelic marble, materials that have proven vulnerable to the ravages of time. The passage of centuries has taken a heavy toll on the Parthenon and its frieze. Weathering, pollution, and human activities have all contributed to the deterioration of this invaluable cultural artifact. Conservation efforts have been ongoing since the late 19th century, with the most recent major restoration project taking place between 1985 and 1994. Despite the damage, the Parthenon Frieze remains an enduring symbol of ancient Greek civilization and a testament to the artistic achievements of the past. This comparison serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage for future generations.
