17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning artwork depicts the North Island Kokako (Callaeas wilsoni), a critically endangered bird species native to New Zealand. The North Island Kokako is a member of the Callaeidae family, also known as the wattlebirds, and is characterized by its distinctive blue-grey plumage, wattles, and orange eyes. The North Island Kokako was once widespread throughout the forests of New Zealand's North Island, but by the late 19th century, hunting and habitat loss had driven the population to near extinction. The bird was not rediscovered in the wild until 1972, and since then, conservation efforts have focused on protecting and expanding their habitat and managing predator populations. This beautiful illustration of the North Island Kokako is from Sir Walter Lawry Buller's "A History of the Birds of New Zealand," published in 1888. The artwork was created by the renowned Dutch natural history illustrator, John Gerrard Keulemans (1842-1912). Keulemans was known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to capture the essence of the birds he illustrated. The North Island Kokako is a passerine bird, meaning it is in the order Passeriformes, which includes the majority of modern birds. The bird's scientific name, Callaeas wilsoni, honors the naturalist William Wilson, who collected the first specimen of this species. Today, the North Island Kokako population is estimated to be around 400 individuals, and conservation efforts continue to protect and expand their habitat. This artwork serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving New Zealand's unique and fascinating wildlife.
