Bell Boater Comedy Daisy Eastbourne Flier Panto Parasol Pier Promotional Skinny Straw Thin

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and feast your eyes on this delightful promotional postcard from the Summerdown Revusical Panto production of "Daisy Bell, in Flewso the Flier," performed at the Pier Theatre in Eastbourne during the merry season of 1917. This image transports us back to the enchanting era of the 1910s, when theatre and entertainment reigned supreme. The thin and elegant figure of Daisy Bell, the leading lady, graces the stage with her charming presence. She dons a beautiful summer dress, accessorized with a parasol and a dainty straw hat adorned with flowers. The boater hat resting on a chair nearby suggests that this scene takes place on the seaside, adding to the delightful summertime atmosphere. Despite the joyous setting, the backdrop of World War I casts a subtle shadow over the scene. The war is hinted at through the military-style uniform of the man holding the parasol, as well as the wartime spirit embodied in the comic and lighthearted nature of the pantomime. Flewso the Flier, a comic character, is likely to have played a significant role in this production. With his oversized shoes and exaggerated expression, he adds a touch of humour and whimsy to the scene. This postcard, from the Michael Diamond Collection at Mary Evans Picture Library, offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of English theatre during the early 20th century. It invites us to imagine the laughter and delight that filled the Pier Theatre as audiences enjoyed the comic antics of Daisy Bell and Flewso the Flier in this beloved pantomime production.
