Liverpool Unemployed Wellington
31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph, titled "Unemployed Men in Liverpool," is a poignant reminder of the harsh realities faced by the working class during the Victorian era. Taken in the early 1900s by the Keasbury-Gordon Photograph Archive Collection from Mary Evans Prints Online, the image captures a group of unemployed men gathered around the base of the Wellington Column monument in Liverpool, England. Dressed in their best clothes, the men sit and stand, their expressions a mix of hopefulness, frustration, and resignation. The column, a symbol of Liverpool's maritime history and civic pride, looms large in the background, a stark contrast to the desperation and uncertainty of the men before it. The Victorian era, marked by rapid industrialization and urbanization, saw the rise of mass unemployment as traditional industries struggled to keep up with the changing economic landscape. Liverpool, a major port city, was particularly hard hit as the shipping industry declined and factories closed. The unemployed men in this photograph are a testament to the human cost of economic upheaval. They represent the countless individuals and families who struggled to make ends meet during this period, relying on meager handouts from charities or the meager wages of casual labor to survive. Despite the challenges they faced, the men in this photograph maintain a sense of community and solidarity, huddled together in the shadow of the monument. Their shared experience of unemployment and hardship binds them together, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, human connection can provide a glimmer of hope and strength.
