23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This chromolithography print depicts a knight of the Order of Calatrava in battle dress, as illustrated in the "History of the Orders of Chivalry and the Spanish Decorations," published in Madrid in 1865. Founded in the Kingdom of Castile in 1158, the Order of Calatrava is a military and religious organization with a rich history that spans over eight centuries. The knights of the order were renowned for their bravery and commitment to the Catholic faith during the Middle Ages. The knight in the print wears the distinctive insignia of the Order, the Cross of Calatrava, which features the image of the castle of Calatrava la Vieja on its face. The knight's battle dress consists of a coat of plate armor, a cape, a helmet, and a shield bearing the Order's emblem. The knight's attire reflects the military and religious nature of the Order, which was dedicated to protecting the Christian faith and the kingdom of Castile during times of war. The Order of Calatrava was founded during the reign of King Sancho III of Castile and played a significant role in the Christian Reconquista, the long-lasting process of reclaiming the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule. The Order's members were expected to uphold the values of chivalry, courage, and piety, making them respected figures in medieval Europe. This print offers a fascinating glimpse into the history and symbolism of the Order of Calatrava and the medieval world it inhabited.
