17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Claude Perrault: Pioneering Physician and Architect of the Académie des Sciences (1666) This evocative image captures the intellectual and creative spirit of Claude Perrault (1613-1688), a man of remarkable accomplishments in both the medical and architectural fields. Perrault is depicted here in the prime of his life, with an air of deep concentration as he points towards a model of a building, his brow furrowed in thought. The architectural masterpiece in question is believed to be the Salpêtrière Hospital, which Perrault designed and oversaw the construction of in Paris between 1656 and 1660. Born in Paris, Perrault studied medicine at the University of Montpellier before returning to his native city to practice medicine. He quickly gained a reputation as a brilliant diagnostician and innovative thinker, publishing groundbreaking works on anatomy, pathology, and the nature of bones. In 1666, Perrault co-founded the Académie des Sciences with Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the French Minister of Finance, and Pierre-Daniel Huet, Bishop of Avranches. The Académie des Sciences was an influential institution dedicated to advancing knowledge in the sciences, mathematics, and medicine. Perrault's architectural prowess came to the forefront when he was appointed architect to the King of France, Louis XIV. In addition to the Salpêtrière Hospital, he designed and oversaw the construction of the Hôtel de Soubise, the Château de Chambord, and the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Perrault's architectural designs were characterized by their symmetry, proportion, and innovative use of materials, such as the use of iron in the construction of the Salpêtrière Hospital. This image of Claude Perrault, with its blend of medical and architectural elements, serves as a testament to the multifaceted nature of his accomplishments and his enduring legacy as a pioneering figure in both fields.
