23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning hand-colored steel engraving, created by the Pauquet brothers and based on an original illustration by Alexis Nicolas Noel, showcases four exquisite species of hawkmoths native to Europe: the Vine Hawkmoth (Hippotion celerio), Mediterranean Hawkmoth (Hyles nicaea), Small Elephant Hawkmoth (Deilephila porcellus), and the Hippotion celerio, also known as the Celerio or Spiny-shouldered Hawkmoth. The Vine Hawkmoth, with its distinctive white stripes and brown wings, is often found near vineyards and gardens. The Mediterranean Hawkmoth, also known as the Nicaea Hawkmoth, boasts bright orange and black wings with intricate patterns. The Small Elephant Hawkmoth, as its name suggests, is smaller in size and features a striking elephant-like proboscis. This beautiful work of art is taken from Hippolyte Lucas's Natural History of European Butterflies, or Histoire Naturelle des Lepidopteres d'Europe, published in 1864. The meticulous attention to detail in the illustration and engraving process highlights the unique features and beauty of each hawkmoth species. The Pauquet brothers, known for their exceptional skill in steel engraving, expertly brought Noel's illustrations to life through this intricate process. The addition of hand-coloring further enhances the vibrancy and realism of the image, making it a true masterpiece of natural history art. This print not only serves as a testament to the natural beauty of these European hawkmoths but also showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of the Pauquet brothers and Alexis Nicolas Noel during the 19th century.
