23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite hand-colored copperplate stipple engraving, titled "Lyreshead Lizard and Mophead Iguana," is a stunning example of the naturalistic illustrations found in Antoine Laurent de Jussieu's "Dizionario delle Scienze Naturali," or "Dictionary of Natural Science," published in Florence, Italy, in 1837. The illustration was engraved by Corsi, with drawings by Jean Gabriel Pretre and direction by Pierre Jean-Francois Turpin. The engraving features two intriguing reptiles: the Lyreshead Lizard (Lyriocephalus scutatus) and the Mophead Iguana, also known as the Diving Iguana or the Mop-tailed Iguana (Uranoscodon superciliosus). The Lyreshead Lizard, also known as the Broad-tailed Phyllurus or the New Holland Gecko, is depicted with its distinctive lyre-shaped crest on its head, as well as its long, broad tail. The Mophead Iguana, native to the Caribbean, is shown with its distinctive mop-like tail and the distinctive white markings above its eyes. Turpin, the director of this illustration, was a renowned French botanical illustrator of the 19th century. His meticulous attention to detail and naturalistic style are evident in this engraving. The background of the image features intricate, textured patterns, adding to the overall beauty and depth of the illustration. This image offers a glimpse into the natural world of the past, showcasing the intricate details and unique characteristics of these fascinating reptiles. The Lyreshead Lizard and Mophead Iguana continue to captivate and inspire us with their unique appearances and the rich history they represent in the annals of herpetology and natural science.
