17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisitely detailed hand-colored copperplate engraving depicts the Joseph's Coat Moth, Agarista agricola, also known as the Painted Agarista or Agarista picta. The image was meticulously drawn and engraved by the skilled hand of Richard Polydore Nodder, and published in William Elford Leach's Zoological Miscellany in 1814. The Joseph's Coat Moth is a beautiful and intriguing insect, native to the Mediterranean region. Its name derives from the biblical story of Joseph's multi-colored coat, as the moth's wings bear a striking resemblance to the pattern of colors on the coat. The wings of the moth are adorned with intricate patterns of black, white, and gold, creating a stunning visual display. The engraving captures the moth in a lifelike pose, with its wings spread wide and its body curled up in the center. The delicate veining on the wings and the fine details of the moth's body are rendered with remarkable precision and accuracy. The use of hand-coloring adds an additional layer of beauty and depth to the image, bringing out the vibrant colors and intricate patterns of the moth's wings. This engraving is an excellent example of the high-quality illustrations produced during the 19th century, when natural history was a popular area of scientific exploration and discovery. The intricate details and beautiful colors of the Joseph's Coat Moth, as depicted in this engraving, continue to captivate and inspire appreciation for the natural world today.
