17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisitely hand-colored copperplate engraving showcases the majestic Gemsbok or Gemsbuck antelope, Oryx gazella, as it was depicted in Georg Wolfgang Knorr's Deliciae Naturae Selectae (Select Rarities of Nature) published in Nuremberg in 1771. The engraving, created by the skilled hand of Jakob-Andreas Eisemann, captures the elegant features and distinctive markings of this African antelope. The Gemsbok, also known as the Gemsbuck or Chamois of Africa, is a large antelope native to the arid regions of Southern Africa. With its long, slender legs, large, spiraled horns, and striking, white underbelly, the Gemsbok is a sight to behold. The engraving accurately portrays the Gemsbok's robust build and the intricate patterns on its coat, which range from light brown to dark brown, with white spots on the legs and underbelly. This engraving is a testament to the meticulous attention to detail and the artistic skill of the time. It was part of the extensive collection of Dr. Christoph Jacob Trew's Wunderkammer or Cabinet of Curiosities in Nuremberg, Germany. The Wunderkammer was a precursor to modern museums, housing a diverse array of natural and artificial objects, as well as curiosities from various parts of the world. This beautiful and historically significant engraving offers a glimpse into the natural world as it was understood during the 18th century, and serves as a reminder of the fascination and wonder that early naturalists held for the natural world.
