17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This handcoloured copperplate engraving, taken from Friedrich Johann Bertuch's Bilderbuch fur Kinder (Picture Book for Children) published in Weimar, Germany, in 1802, showcases the pioneers of flight during the 18th century. The image features four significant figures who made remarkable strides in the realm of aeronautics and travel. In the foreground, Etienne and Joseph Montgolfier, the Montgolfier brothers, are depicted with their hot-air balloon, Balloon 1. The Montgolfiers are credited with inventing the hot-air balloon, which became the world's first practical flying machine. They are shown with a large brazier, used to heat the air inside the balloon, causing it to rise. In the middle ground, Professor Jacques Charles stands next to his balloon, Balloon 2, which was the first balloon to use a gondola and hydrogen gas as lifting agents. The hydrogen-gas mechanism, represented by the cylinder and bag, is attached to the balloon. Jean-Pierre Blanchard, a renowned aeronaut, is depicted in the background, holding his parachute, number 3. Blanchard was the first person to make a successful manned free-flight in a hot air balloon and was also the first person to cross the English Channel by air. The parachute was an essential safety device that allowed Blanchard to make controlled descents from great heights. This enchanting illustration serves as a testament to the ingenuity and curiosity of the human spirit, as these pioneers pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible and opened the door to a new era of travel and exploration.
