1821 Bonaparte Death Bed Helena Napoleon

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Napoleon Bonaparte, the legendary military and political leader of France, is depicted in this poignant and historic image as he lies on his deathbed at St. Helena in 1821. The photograph, titled "Napoleon I/Scenes on his deathbed at St. Helena," is a haunting reminder of the final moments of one of history's most influential figures. Surrounded by his loyal servants and physicians, Napoleon's weary and frail body lies covered in blankets, his eyes closed in what appears to be a deep slumber. His once powerful hand rests on a small table, holding a quill pen and inkwell, a testament to his enduring love for writing and governance until the very end. The room is dimly lit, with a single candle casting a warm, ethereal glow over the scene. The island of St. Helena, located in the South Atlantic Ocean, was Napoleon's place of exile following his defeat in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. He was exiled there by the British, who feared his continued influence on European politics. Despite the harsh conditions and isolation, Napoleon remained a symbol of hope and resistance for his followers, and many believed that he would one day return to France and reclaim his throne. However, on May 5, 1821, at the age of 51, Napoleon's long and arduous journey came to an end. He passed away peacefully in his small cottage on the island, surrounded by his loyal servants and with the knowledge that his legacy would live on in the annals of history. This photograph, taken from the extensive collection of Mary Evans Picture Library, offers a unique and poignant glimpse into the final moments of one of history's most enigmatic and influential figures. It serves as a reminder of the human side of Napoleon Bonaparte, a man who, despite his many accomplishments and failures, remained a complex and intriguing figure until the very end.
