23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: Mouse Ear Hawkweed and Mountain Hawkweed: A Botanical Exploration of Two Distinctive Alpine Species This handcolored botanical copperplate engraving, taken from Joshua Hamilton's Culpeper's English Family Physician; or Medical Herbal, showcases the intricate details of Mouse Ear Hawkweed (Hieracium pilosella) and Mountain Hawkweed (Hieracium alpestre). The engraving, created in 1792 by an unknown artist under the direction of Sir John Hill, offers a glimpse into the rich history of botany and herbal medicine. Mouse Ear Hawkweed, also known as Mouse-ear Hawkbit or Common Mouse-ear, is a low-growing perennial plant with distinctive mouse-ear shaped leaves. It is native to Europe, Asia, and North America, and is often found in meadows, fields, and waste places. The plant has been used in traditional medicine for various ailments, including wounds, skin conditions, and digestive issues. Mountain Hawkweed, on the other hand, is a tall alpine plant with yellow flowers and rosettes of hairy leaves. It is native to the mountains of Europe and Asia, and is often found in high-altitude meadows and rocky slopes. The plant has been used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, particularly for treating respiratory and digestive issues. The intricate details of the engraving reveal the delicate structures of both plants, from the veining on their leaves to the intricacies of their flowers. This beautiful illustration serves as a testament to the importance of botanical exploration and the role of herbal medicine in history. Whether you are a botanist, a historian, or simply someone with an appreciation for the natural world, this engraving offers a window into the past and the rich history of plant discovery. It is a reminder of the beauty and complexity of the natural world, and the importance of preserving and understanding the plants that surround us.
