17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

This evocative diptych captures the harsh realities of the Western Front during World War I, as depicted in the works of French photographer Jean-Jacques Berne-Bellecour (1874-1939). In the first vignette, a group of mounted French horsemen are seen in the midst of a cloud of dust, their determined faces a testament to the arduous conditions of the battlefield. Their horses, coated in sweat and grime, plod forward, their hooves kicking up clouds of dust with each step. The scene exudes a sense of urgency and purpose, as the soldiers press onward in their mission. In the second vignette, a French horse-drawn wagon labors through the mud of the Somme, its wheels spinning but making little progress. The mud, thick and treacherous, has claimed numerous victims, leaving behind a scene of desolation and destruction. The horses, straining at the reins, seem to be barely holding their ground, their breaths coming in labored gasps. The wagon's cargo, hidden from view, adds to the mystery and intrigue of the image. Berne-Bellecour's photographs offer a unique perspective on the war, providing a glimpse into the daily struggles and hardships faced by the soldiers and civilians on the front lines. His work, which was produced between 1914 and 1918, is an invaluable historical record of the First World War, and a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during this pivotal period in world history.
