Circle Fuji Mount Woodblocks Woodcuts

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Mount Fuji Framed by a Fire Circle: A Scene of Spiritual Reflection and Rejuvenation from 19th Century Japan This woodblock print, dating back to approximately 1836, offers a glimpse into the spiritual and natural beauty of Japan during the Edo period. The image, framed by a circle of fire, showcases the iconic Mount Fuji in the distance, its snow-capped peak reaching for the heavens. To the left of the towering mountain, a priest stands next to a torii gate, a traditional Japanese gateway to the Shinto shrine, adorned with a large wreath. The gate serves as a threshold between the mundane world and the sacred one, symbolizing the transition from the profane to the divine. The serene scene is further enhanced by the presence of two men and a woman, who are bathing in a cistern, their bodies submerged in the crystal-clear water. The water for the cistern is believed to have been sourced from an opening in a tree, a common practice in Japan, where the belief in the healing properties of natural water was deeply rooted. As they bathe, the trio appears to be in a state of deep contemplation, their minds focused on the spiritual significance of the moment. The fire circle, which encircles the scene, may represent the cleansing and purifying power of the elements, as well as the cyclical nature of life. This woodblock print, with its intricate details and rich symbolism, offers a window into the spiritual practices and natural wonders of Japan during the Edo period. It serves as a reminder of the importance of connection to nature and the divine, and the transformative power of spiritual reflection and rejuvenation.
