23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the historic Mile End Old Town Workhouse in East London, a poignant reminder of the harsh realities faced by the impoverished residents of the area in years gone by. Previously part of the Stepney Union, this workhouse became an independent Poor Law Hamlet in 1857, signaling a new chapter in its history. Designed by William Dobson in a striking Domestic Tudor style, the workhouse on Bancroft Road stands as a testament to Victorian architecture and social legislation. The main frontage of the building is showcased in all its grandeur, with intricate details and imposing windows that speak to a time when poverty and homelessness were pressing issues that needed addressing. As we gaze upon this image, we are transported back to 1912 when paupers sought refuge within these walls, seeking shelter and assistance from a society that often turned a blind eye to their plight. The facade of the building exudes both strength and vulnerability, reflecting the complex interplay between design and destitution. This print serves as a powerful reminder of our shared history and challenges us to reflect on how far we have come in terms of housing and social welfare. It is not just an image but a window into another world - one that demands our attention and empathy.
