23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant photograph captures a moment in time at the Cardiff Union Workhouse, located on Cowbridge Road in Cardiff, Wales, during the late 19th or early 20th century. The image depicts a group of elderly male inmates, dressed in uniforms, gathered together in a dimly lit room. Among them is a nurse, dressed in her nursing uniform, providing care and attention to the destitute men. The Cardiff Union Workhouse was established to provide shelter and support for the poor and destitute, a common practice during the Victorian era when poverty was rampant in Wales and throughout the United Kingdom. The workhouse system was designed to be a deterrent to those who were able-bodied, as living conditions were harsh and intended to encourage residents to seek employment. However, for the elderly and infirm, the workhouse offered a rare respite from the harsh realities of poverty and homelessness. Despite the grim conditions, the nurse in this photograph is a testament to the compassionate care that was provided to the inmates. Her presence not only offered medical attention but also provided a sense of comfort and human connection in an otherwise dehumanizing environment. The image is a powerful reminder of the historical struggle against poverty and the importance of providing care and support for the most vulnerable members of society. The elderly men in this photograph, dressed in their uniforms and huddled together, represent the countless individuals who sought refuge in workhouses during a time of great need. This photograph is a poignant reminder of the past and the ongoing importance of addressing poverty and providing care for the elderly and infirm in our communities.
