17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the scene of mail being loaded onto a mail steamer at the Kyles of Bute in Argyllshire, Scotland during the 1940s. The serene waters of the kyles, a narrow inlet of the Firth of Clyde, reflect the misty morning as the mail steamer prepares for departure. In the foreground, a group of men carefully place mailboxes onto a plank, ready to be transferred onto the ship. The mailboxes, with their distinctive red and white postal insignia, are a testament to the importance of this vital communication link in a time before modern transportation and digital technology. The mail steamer played a crucial role in connecting remote communities in Scotland and beyond, allowing them to receive letters, parcels, and news from the outside world. The journey across the kyles, though short, was an essential part of the mail delivery network, and the arrival of the mail steamer was an anticipated event for many. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when communication was not instantaneous, and the simple act of sending and receiving mail was a cherished connection to the wider world. The scene is one of quiet efficiency, with the men working together to ensure the smooth transfer of the mailboxes, and the steamer ready to set sail on its next journey. The historical significance of this photograph lies in its depiction of a moment in time, when the mail steamer was an essential means of communication, and the connection to the outside world was forged through the simple act of sending and receiving mail. This photograph is a reminder of the importance of communication, and the role it plays in bringing people together, even in the most remote of places.
