17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning watercolor painting depicts the Little Spotted Kiwi, also known as the Kiwi Pukupuku (Apteryx owenii), a native bird species endemic to New Zealand. Painted by the renowned Dutch naturalist artist JG Keulemans for Sir Walter Lawry Buller's "A History of the Birds of New Zealand," this artwork was published in Volume 3, Plate 49, in 1888. The Little Spotted Kiwi is a small, flightless bird belonging to the Apterygidae family and the Apterygiformes order. It is one of five kiwi species found in New Zealand, and it is characterized by its distinctive brown feathers with white spots and a long, pointed beak. The bird's cryptic plumage helps it blend in with the forest floor, making it an excellent camouflage against predators. The Little Spotted Kiwi is native to the North Island and parts of the South Island of New Zealand. They typically inhabit forested areas with dense vegetation, and they are primarily nocturnal, feeding on insects, worms, and other invertebrates. Due to habitat loss and predation, the population of the Little Spotted Kiwi has declined significantly, and it is currently classified as Near Threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This beautiful watercolor painting is a testament to the rich natural history of New Zealand and the important role that art plays in documenting and preserving the natural world. Keulemans' meticulous attention to detail and his ability to capture the essence of the Little Spotted Kiwi make this artwork a valuable addition to any collection of natural history art or ornithology.
