23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Joys of the Trench Tramway: A Snapshot of Life on the Western Front during World War I This evocative photograph captures the moment of respite for Acting Sergeant Herbert Gibson, MM, of the 1st Northumbrian Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, amidst the harsh realities of trench warfare during World War I. Born in September 1889, Gibson is seen here enjoying a well-deserved break from the relentless duties of caring for the wounded soldiers on the front lines. The image was taken on the trench tramway, a vital transportation system that connected the front lines with the rear areas, enabling the swift movement of troops and supplies. The tramway, a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the military engineers, was a vital lifeline for the soldiers, providing a means of transportation that helped to alleviate the physical and mental tolls of trench warfare. Despite the apparent tranquility of the scene, the photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the harsh realities of life on the Western Front. The soldiers, including Gibson, were constantly exposed to the horrors of war, enduring the harsh conditions of the trenches, the ever-present threat of enemy fire, and the emotional toll of caring for the wounded and dying. The photograph also underscores the important role of the medical services during wartime. Gibson, a decorated soldier with the Military Medal, is a testament to the bravery and dedication of the medical personnel who risked their lives to care for their comrades. The image serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women of the medical services during World War I and the crucial role they played in the war effort. This photograph is a rare and poignant glimpse into the daily life of a soldier on the Western Front during World War I, offering a glimpse into the complexities and challenges of life in the trenches and the resilience and determination of the soldiers who served there.
