23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "A Spark of Wit and Satire: John Kay's Caricatured Victims Reveal Their Thoughts" In this intriguing print from 1796, renowned Scottish caricaturist John Kay is depicted in his workshop, surrounded by some of his many caricatured victims. The scene takes place in Kay's "Room of Ridicule" in Edinburgh, where the artist once entertained the city's elite with his biting wit and satirical commentary on the fashions, politics, and personalities of the day. One of the caricatured figures, dressed in the height of 18th-century fashion, is not amused by the way he has been portrayed. With a displeased expression and a speech bubble filled with an indignant retort, he gestures towards Kay, who seems unfazed by the man's reaction. The artist, with a quill in hand and a mischievous grin on his face, continues to work on his latest creation, oblivious to the displeasure of his subject. Through the windows of the room, we catch a glimpse of the bustling streets of Edinburgh and the various buildings that make up the cityscape. The print's intricate details and vibrant colors bring the scene to life, transporting us back in time to an era of creativity, humor, and artistic expression. John Kay's caricatures were known for their accuracy and their ability to capture the essence of their subjects, often with a touch of humor and satire. This print offers a unique glimpse into the world of 18th-century caricature and the reactions of those who found themselves immortalized in Kay's artwork. Whether you're a fan of history, art, or simply appreciate a good laugh, this print is sure to capture your imagination and leave you pondering the power of satire and the human reaction to being caricatured.
