17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This enchanting print, titled "Plate VIII" from the second volume of Pierre de Hondt's "Histoire Naturelle Générale et Particulière avec la Description du Cabinet du Roy," offers a captivating glimpse into the world of human emotions as depicted through the artful hands of engraver J. vander Schley in 1750. The image, devoid of any context or identifying labels, invites the viewer to explore the intricacies of facial expressions and the profound impact they have on communication. Each figure in this intricately detailed engraving is captured mid-expression, revealing a myriad of emotions that resonate with the human experience. From the intense gaze and clenched jaw of the figure in the top left corner, to the mischievous smirk of the figure in the bottom right, each expression tells a story. The subtle variations in the lines and curves of the faces, the play of light and shadow, and the intricate details of the costumes and accessories all contribute to the overall effect. The absence of labels or context adds an element of mystery to the print, allowing the viewer to project their own interpretations onto the figures. This timeless work of art serves as a reminder of the power of facial expressions to convey emotion and connect people, transcending language and cultural barriers. Pierre de Hondt's "Histoire Naturelle Générale et Particulière avec la Description du Cabinet du Roy" was a comprehensive natural history encyclopedia, featuring a wide range of subjects from the natural world, as well as the human experience. This print, with its focus on the expressive power of the human face, is a testament to the enduring fascination with the complexities of human emotion and the role of art in capturing and conveying them.
