1896 Bicycle Cycling Rider

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a piece of cycling history from the 1870s - the Penny Farthing or Ordinary Bicycle. The rider, dressed in contemporary cycling clothes, sits proudly atop this iconic high-wheeled bicycle, showcasing the unique design that was popular during this era. The Penny Farthing bicycle, with its large front wheel and smaller rear wheel, was a symbol of status and innovation in the late 19th century. Its design allowed for greater speed and efficiency compared to earlier models, making it a favorite among cyclists of the time. In this image, we see a glimpse into the past as the rider confidently navigates through streets while donning attire that reflects both style and functionality. The blend of historical charm and modern sensibilities is evident in every detail captured by the photographer. As we admire this snapshot from 1896, we are reminded of how far cycling has come since its early days. The evolution of bicycles over time is truly remarkable, yet there is something timeless about seeing a rider on a Penny Farthing bike - it serves as a reminder of our enduring fascination with two-wheeled transportation. This print is not just a piece of art but also a window into an important chapter in cycling history. It allows us to appreciate where we have been while looking forward to where we are headed next in the world of cycling.
