Battle Ship Canopus Sheerness Vengeance War Time Ww 1

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the imposing presence of HMS Vengeance, a Canopus-class predreadnought battleship of the British Royal Navy, as it sits anchored in Sheerness Harbour, Kent, in the year 1914. With its intricate rigging and ornate gun turrets, HMS Vengeance was a formidable warship of the era, launched in 1899 and serving in various locations before and during the First World War. The ship's impressive size and power were a testament to the technological advancements and naval prowess of the British fleet during this pivotal period in world history. As the world teetered on the brink of war, HMS Vengeance was a symbol of the might and determination of the British navy. Its guns were ready to defend the shores of the United Kingdom against any threat, and its crew stood prepared to answer the call to action. The calm waters of Sheerness Harbour, with the English countryside in the background, provide a stark contrast to the potential chaos and destruction that the ship was designed to prevent. The First World War, which began in August 1914, would test the mettle of HMS Vengeance and the British navy in ways that few could have imagined. The ship would see action in various battles and engagements, playing a crucial role in the defense of the United Kingdom and its allies. After the war, HMS Vengeance was decommissioned in 1920, marking the end of an era in naval history. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the courage and sacrifice of the men who served aboard HMS Vengeance and the other ships of the British fleet during the Great War.
