23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative print captures the daring exploits of the notorious highwayman John Cottington, also known as Mulled Sack, as he robs an army pay wagon on Shotover Hill near Oxford in the year 1635. The image depicts Cottington, dressed in a long coat and tricorn hat, casually leaning against the wagon with a confident smirk, as his accomplices, disguised as soldiers, approach from the shadows. The wagon, laden with gold and silver coins, is shown spilling over with the stolen treasure. Cottington and his gang successfully relieved the pay wagon of an estimated 4,000 pounds, a significant sum in that era. However, their criminal enterprise did not go unnoticed for long. The relentless pursuit by the authorities eventually led to Cottington's capture in 1656, when he was hanged at the age of 45. This historical print, circa 1635, offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of highwaymen and the daring crimes that captivated the public imagination during this period. The print is a poignant reminder of the risks and rewards of a life in crime, and the inevitability of the consequences that came with such a lifestyle. John Cottington, or Mulled Sack, remains a figure of intrigue in the annals of Oxfordshire history, and this print serves as a testament to his audacious exploits. The image, from the Mary Evans Prints Online collection, is not to be used for commercial purposes.
