17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Plate 373 from John James Audubon's iconic work, "Birds of America," showcases two captivating species of the avian and arthropod worlds: the Evening Grosbeak (Hesperiphona vespertina) and the Black-headed Grosbeak (Pheuticus melanocephalus). This exquisite hand-colored aquatint print, engraved, printed, and colored by R. Havell (& Son) in London between 1835 and 1838, invites us to explore the natural beauty of these birds in their respective habitats. The Evening Grosbeak, a member of the Fringillidae family, is depicted perched gracefully on a branch, its vibrant, red-tinged bill contrasting sharply with its yellow body and black wings. The bird's name derives from its preference for feeding during the evening hours, making it an intriguing addition to the daytime avian community. In the background, a flock of butterflies, likely members of the Arthropoda order, flit among the foliage, adding an ethereal touch to the scene. The Evening Grosbeak's companion in this plate is the Black-headed Grosbeak, a striking member of the Cardinalidae family. Its cross-marked bill and black head are prominent features, making it easily distinguishable from other birds. This image, with its intricate details and vivid colors, is a testament to Audubon's unwavering dedication to documenting the natural world. The meticulous attention to detail in the engraving and hand-coloring processes further enhances the print's beauty, making it a cherished piece for any nature enthusiast or collector.
