Archaeological Athens Bronze Hellenistic Kalymnos

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This bronze statue, known as the Lady of Kalymnos, is a testament to the rich artistic heritage of ancient Greece. Discovered by a fisherman in the Aegean Sea off the coast of the island of Kalymnos in late 1994, this sculpture is believed to date back to the Hellenistic Period, around the late 2nd century BC. The Lady of Kalymnos is currently housed in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece, where she continues to intrigue and inspire visitors from around the world. The statue depicts a woman of advanced age, her face etched with the lines of time and wisdom. Her posture is serene and dignified, with one hand resting on her hip and the other holding a veil to her chest. The intricate details of her clothing and hairstyle are beautifully rendered, revealing the skill and artistry of the ancient Greek sculptor. The Hellenistic Period, which followed the Classical Period, was characterized by a focus on individuality and naturalism in art. The Lady of Kalymnos is a prime example of this trend, with her lifelike portrayal and expressive features. Her discovery in the sea is a reminder of the vast cultural treasures that lie beneath the waves, waiting to be unearthed and appreciated by future generations. The Lady of Kalymnos is not only a work of art, but also a window into the past, offering a glimpse into the lives and values of the ancient Greeks. Her presence in the National Archaeological Museum is a reminder of Greece's enduring legacy and its continued commitment to preserving and celebrating its rich cultural heritage.
