1811 Graves Major Ornithology Parus Titmouse

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite handcolored copperplate print showcases the Great Tit, scientifically known as Parus major, also affectionately referred to as the Great Titmouse. The intricately detailed illustration was drawn and engraved by the renowned British naturalist and artist, George Graves, in 1821. Graves was an accomplished figure in the world of natural history, excelling in various roles as a bookseller, publisher, artist, and engraver. He is best known for his work on botanical and ornithological books, and this print is a testament to his exceptional skills. The Great Tit is a small, energetic bird that is native to Europe and Asia. With its distinctive black and white head markings, bright yellow belly, and vibrant blue-gray wings, it is a beloved species among bird enthusiasts. The Great Tit's beak is large and powerful, allowing it to easily crack open seeds and nuts, making it an omnivorous bird that thrives in various habitats. This beautiful print, taken from Graves' British Ornithology, published in Walworth in 1821, captures the essence of the Great Tit's charm and beauty. The meticulous attention to detail in the plumage, beak, and eyes is truly awe-inspiring. This print not only serves as a stunning decorative piece but also as a historical record of natural history illustration during the early 19th century. With its rich history and artistic merit, this print is a must-have for any avian enthusiast or collector of historical prints.
