17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the distinguished visage of General Sir Francis Reginald Wingate (1861-1953), a British military leader and administrator who played a pivotal role in Egypt and the Sudan during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Wingate's military career began in 1882 when he served in the Sudan Campaign under General Gordon. He later became the Governor-General of the Sudan in 1897, where he implemented policies aimed at modernizing the region and extending British influence. Wingate's tenure in the Sudan was marked by his successful military campaigns against the Mahdist forces, which culminated in the Battle of Omdurman in 1898. After the Mahdist resistance was crushed, Wingate oversaw the rebuilding of the Sudanese administration and infrastructure. In 1916, he was appointed the High Commissioner and Commander-in-Chief of Egypt and the Sudan, where he continued to shape the region's political and military landscape. This photograph, taken in the early 1950s, captures Wingate in the twilight of his career. His stern expression and piercing gaze convey a sense of determination and resolve that defined his military and administrative achievements. Wingate's legacy in Egypt and the Sudan is complex and contested, with some viewing him as a visionary leader who brought stability and progress to the region, while others criticize his colonialist policies and their impact on the local population. Regardless of one's perspective, there is no denying the significance of Wingate's contributions to British imperial history. This photograph is a testament to the rich history of the British Empire and the complexities of colonial rule. It serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of historical figures like Wingate, whose legacies continue to shape the contemporary world.
