17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative photograph, General Philippe Petain (1856-1951), a renowned French army officer, is seen decorating the colors of a Moroccan regiment during the First World War. The image, dated circa 1914, captures a significant moment in military history as Petain, dressed in his full general's uniform, bestows honors upon the Moroccan soldiers. Accompanying Petain is General Louis Georges Humbert (1862-1921), the head of the Morocco Division at the time. Both generals are surrounded by Moroccan soldiers, their faces expressing a mix of pride and reverence as they witness the ceremony. The soldiers, dressed in their traditional uniforms, stand at attention, their bayonets fixed to their rifles. The scene takes place in a dusty, outdoor setting, with the sun casting long shadows over the landscape. The colors of the Moroccan regiment are spread out on a makeshift table, adorned with medals and ribbons. Petain's stern expression and deliberate movements as he pins the decorations onto the flags convey the gravity of the moment. This photograph offers a glimpse into the multicultural nature of the French army during the First World War, as well as the strong bond between the French and Moroccan soldiers. It also highlights the importance of military decorations and ceremonies in recognizing and rewarding bravery and loyalty. The image is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers from all corners of the world during the Great War, and the unity and camaraderie that transcended national boundaries. The photograph is a testament to the enduring legacy of the First World War and the indelible mark it left on military history.
