17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the French Naval Academy in Brest, France, during the 1880s. The academy, renowned for its rich naval history and tradition, was originally based on ships anchored in the harbor. The Borda, formerly known as the Valmy, and the Bougainville, pictured here, served as floating classrooms for aspiring naval officers. The Borda's distinctive silhouette, with its tall masts and sails, earned the students the nickname "Bordaches." The French Naval Academy in Brest is steeped in history, with its origins dating back to 1767. Its unique teaching method, which emphasized practical experience on actual ships, set it apart from other naval academies of the time. The academy's location in Brest, a major French port city, provided students with valuable hands-on experience and a deep understanding of the maritime world. The photograph showcases the Borda and Bougainville, two of the academy's hulks, or old ships used for training. The ships' aged appearance, with their weathered decks and worn sails, serve as a reminder of the demanding and rigorous training that students underwent. Despite their worn appearance, these ships were essential tools in preparing the next generation of French naval officers. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when the French Naval Academy in Brest was at the forefront of naval education and training. The image captures the spirit of dedication, discipline, and adventure that defined the academy and its students.
