17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the regal presence of Frederick William Koko Mingi VIII, the Amanyanabo (King) of Brass in Nigeria from 1889 to 1896. Hailing from the Nembe Kingdom in what is now Bayelsa State, Mingi VIII ascended to the throne at a pivotal moment in Nigerian history. The king's striking attire in this image reflects the unique blend of Western and African influences that characterized the era. The patterned jacket, paired with a bizarre top hat, presents an outlandish yet intriguing contrast to the traditional African regalia. The unusual combination of Western and African elements was a common adaptation among African rulers during the late 19th century, as they navigated the complexities of colonialism and the introduction of new cultural influences. Mingi VIII's reign was marked by significant events, including the establishment of a British protectorate over the region in 1893. Despite the challenges posed by colonialism, the king continued to uphold his traditional duties and maintain the integrity of the Nembe Kingdom. Tragically, he passed away in 1898, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire the people of Brass and Bayelsa State to this day. This photograph, taken circa 1889, offers a fascinating glimpse into the complex history of Nigeria and the resilience of its people in the face of change. It serves as a reminder of the intricate interplay between tradition and modernity, and the enduring power of cultural symbols in shaping the identities of individuals and communities.
