1592 1644 Emblems Francis Oval Quarles

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "Francis Quarles: The Literary Pioneer of Emblematic Poetry" Francis Quarles (1592-1644), an English poet and writer, is depicted in this evocative oval portrait. Born in London, Quarles is best known for his groundbreaking work, "Emblems," which significantly influenced the literary landscape of the 17th century. Quarles' career began in the early 17th century, a time of great artistic and intellectual ferment in England. His work reflected the cultural shifts of the era, blending classical learning with contemporary concerns. The emblem genre, popular in Europe since the Renaissance, gained prominence in England during this period. Quarles' contribution to this genre was unique and influential. "Emblems," published in 1635, was a collection of 154 emblems, each accompanied by a poem. The emblems, often symbolic images, were accompanied by moralizing verses that offered guidance on various aspects of life. Quarles' innovative approach to the emblem form, which combined wit, learning, and emotional depth, made "Emblems" a bestseller and established Quarles as a leading literary figure of his time. The portrait captures the intellectual intensity and creative energy of this remarkable writer. Quarles' piercing gaze and serious expression convey a deep sense of concentration and focus, reflecting his dedication to his craft. The intricate details of his attire, including the ruff collar and lace cuffs, underscore the elegance and sophistication of the period. Quarles' legacy extends beyond his own time, as his work influenced generations of poets and writers. His innovative approach to the emblem form paved the way for the development of English poetry and shaped the literary landscape of the 17th century. Today, Francis Quarles is remembered as a pioneering figure in English literature, whose work continues to inspire and delight readers.
