17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

This engraving depicts the Assembly of the General States, held in Paris on February 29, 1588. The General States was an important political institution in France during the late 16th century, bringing together representatives from the three estates of the realm: the clergy, the nobility, and the commoners. The assembly was called by King Henry III (1551-1589) to address the political and religious crises that were threatening the stability of the monarchy. In this scene, we see a large gathering of Frenchmen and Frenchwomen, dressed in the fashion of the day, seated in the grand hall of the Palace of the Louvre. At the head of the assembly sits King Henry III, wearing his regal robes and crown, flanked by his queen, Louise de Lorraine. The king is deep in conversation with the leading politicians of the day, including the ascetic cardinal du Bellay and the courtier du Joyeuse. The Assembly of the General States was a significant moment in French history, as it marked the last attempt to find a peaceful solution to the religious and political conflicts that were tearing the country apart. However, the assembly ultimately failed to reach a consensus, and the civil wars that followed would last for over a decade, culminating in the reign of Henry IV and the Edict of Nantes in 1598. This engraving is a testament to the political and institutional complexities of the French monarchy during the late 16th century, and offers a glimpse into the public life of the French people during a tumultuous period in European history.
